Peter Kocsis, proprietor of Crown Bench Estates Winery, has become a collector.
In the three years since opening his Beamsville winery, Kocsis has been accumulating international medals for the company’s VQA wines, including 16 won just this year. Of those medals, there have been six gold, five silver and five bronze awarded to Kocsis wines.
The 2000 Livia’s Gold VQA, an early harvest Botrytis Affected Chardonnay, has won four medals, including a gold at Intervin. The winery’s 2000 Vintner’s Reserve Chardonnay placed sixth at the Chardonnay du Monde in Paris this year.
The artisan winery boasts some of the oldest plantings of viniferas in Niagara, including a 30-year-old block of Chardonnay. Some of the winery’s unique innovations include Ambrosia, a chocolate and Icewine combination; and Hot Ice, an infusion of hot peppers in Icewine.
